Theatre group – May 2024

This group has now joined Tea and Chat on the first Thursday of the month.

A small party of us went to see the iconic Sherlock Holmes’ story The Hound of the Baskervilles at Pavilions in Teignmouth. This is the second tour of this stage adaptation Fortunately, most of us had read the information prior to the play in order to understand the unusual format of the play. Billed as a “Radio play on stage” Colin Baker played an excellent Sherlock with Terry Molloy his trusty accomplice. This was a one night only production and tickets were soon sold out.

The Haunting at Pavilions was another – not sure if enjoyable is the right word but intriguing and as the title suggested a haunting production.

Last Saturday many of us went to see Cider with Rosie at the Shaftesbury theatre, Dawlish. If you are familiar with the book, Laurie Lee recounts growing up in a small English village in the early part of the 20th century. It was beautifully depicted, and all credit has to go to the Youth Group whose characters formed the main part of the story. The story was narrated by the now adult Laurie Lee. A truly enjoyable evening.

The next day we had another evening at the theatre, this time back at the Pavilions to see Austen’s Women – Lady Susan, a one – person performance. This was Rebecca Vaughan at her very best! The way she slipped in and out of the characters was highly polished and most entertaining. I wouldn’t be exaggerating to say she kept the audience totally riveted throughout her performance. Unfortunately for those who are fans of her, she is in the Director’s chair for her Company’s next two productions but watch out for tickets on sale for A Christmas Carol in December.
