Dawlish & District u3a

12th August 2021

Dawlish & District u3a Open Day, 18th September 2021

Dawlish & District u3a will be holding its first ever Open Day in the Strand Hall, Dawlish, on Saturday 18th September 2021.  The event will be from 10am to 3pm. 18th September promises to be a very busy day in the middle of Dawlish, as Sustainable Dawlish is also organising the ‘Great Big Green Week in Dawlish’, so members feel it will be good to add to the bustle of life at the heart of the community.

After so long when normal activities have been disrupted, it is an opportunity to show what the u3a offers its members now and in the future, and to encourage new members to join.

At the heart of the u3a’s life are the twenty or more interest groups.  These range from Art Appreciation to Wine Appreciation, with Badminton, two Book Clubs, Boules, French Conversation, Great Lives, History, Psychology, Watercolour Painting and so much else as well.  Each of them will be represented, including the newly formed Theatre and Adventure Groups.  Visitors will be able to chat to members to find out at firsthand what they offer.

As well as meeting new members, this is an opportunity for existing members to get together again after missing out on so much during the period of restrictions.  Members are already showing enthusiasm in opening up and resuming activities of all kinds, and it has been a busy and enjoyable summer for many members.

u3a Chair John Vick said, ‘It has been extremely encouraging to see such resilience in the past year.  Membership is growing steadily, and thanks to the enthusiastic and creative work of so many people, we are looking forward with great confidence to a period of growth in what we are offering our members.  Dawlish & District u3a has an exciting future.’

Dawlish & District u3a has over 100 members who meet monthly to listen to speakers on a diverse range of subjects, and to enjoy each other’s company.  In addition, about 20 interest groups meet throughout the month to pursue subjects as varied as Great Lives, History, French Conversation, Wine Appreciation, Scrabble, Rumikub, and Gardens & Gateaux.  To find out more, visit
