Quiz group – October/November 2024
We were able to meet up for our two quizzes and covered a real variety of subjects including the regular General Knowledge round.
In the first evening, the quizzers were challenged to answer questions on Keep Fit, Dragons (there was nothing wrong with my mother-in-law), The world’s deadliest, It’s electrifying and Chemistry.
The Keep Fit round entailed giving an answer that had the word fit in it e.g. What word means extortion and exploitation? Profiteering. The group did not seem to know their dragons as the round gained the less points of the whole evening. Would you have known that in the Harry Potter series, the largest dragons in the world, the ironbellies, came from Ukraine?
The electrifying theme saw one team achieve a maximum 10 out of 10. Shame their joker was no played in that round.
There was a sense of joy (don’t you believe it) as the Chemistry round came to the fore, taking everyone back to their ‘O’ level days. So what are the three states of matter?
Because of three jokers played, the General Knowledge round came out as the best score. So in what year did Amelia Earhart become the first woman to fly across the Atlantic?
On the last Monday of the month we unravelled questions on Johns, Minima, Ban the books, Pairs, NHS. Not the NHS but questions or answers that had the words including the letters NHS in that order i.e. A city in the North West of England = Manchester.
How would you have fared in the other rounds? Let’s see…
- Which John was born Marion Morrison? John Wayne
- What is the minimum tread depth of a car tyre in the UK? 1.6 mm
- Which Hemingway book was banned in fascist Italy? A farewell to arms
- Who are the hecklers on the Muppet show? Statler and Waldorf
- How many Nobel prize categories are there? Five
It was another evening of fun and fellowship and the strongest round was Johns and this due to the four jokers played. Otherwise NHS would have perhaps climbed to the top of the chart. Surprisingly the General Knowledge round gained the least points.
We look forward to our November tests of knowledge ; on Mondays the 11th and 25th.
