Adventure group – Tobogganing

We may not have any snow here in Devon but that isn’t going to stop us from going tobogganing!

Interested?  This is what you need to know:

Nature of activity Tobogganing

“Ride the Cresta Run, our awesome toboggan ride.

The lift will take you to the top and then you are in control thoughout 650m of our fun course via a series of twists and turns.” (Source)

Date and start time Either Friday 27th January 2023 or Friday 3rd February.

Starting at 11am.
Please aim to arrive there about 20 minutes before the start time.

Duration Approx 45 minutes (depends on number of rides booked)
Cost Three rides for £9, or
five rides for £14
Cost includes Safety briefing, full instruction and three or five rides.
Equipment provided The toboggan!
Deadline for commitment Please notify Miggie by Saturday 14th January if you wish to attend. Please indicate your availability for one or both dates.  Miggie will set the final date based on the majority availability and contact you to confirm this.
How and when to pay Once the date has been finalised, please then pay in full to D&D u3a by Monday 23rd January (bank details below).

Please note, it is really important that you add the reference so our Treasurer knows what the funds are for.

Cheque payments:
Bank transfers are preferred but if you wish to pay by cheque please ensure the Treasurer has your cheque in sufficient time for it to clear by the deadline.

Cancellation policy If you cancel with more than 48 hours notice it may be possible to rearrange your visit to another date; after 48 hours a cancellation fee of 25% will be incurred.

Please note: the Cresta Run is outdoors and the provider states: “We are a rain or shine slope, we would only stop a session if there was thunder and lightning due to the risk of being on a hill in such a storm”. (Source)

Procedure for notifying group if provider cancels In the event of cancellation by Plymouth Snowsports Centre, Miggie will send an email to all those who have booked and update the details on the website.

Please check the website on the morning of the activity in case of last minute cancellation.

Level of fitness required or any particular skills (you must satisfy yourself that you are physically able to participate in the activity). Ability to walk approx 300 yards down to the tobogganing area and the same back up again afterwards.  Ability to climb in and out of the toboggan. Willingness and ability to hear and  follow instruction.
Personal medical conditions If you have any medical conditions that might affect your ability to ride the toboggan then you should declare this to the instructor on arrival.
Disclaimer Please note that whilst the u3a organisers are concerned for everyone’s welfare, by taking part in this activity you should recognise that your safety is your own responsibility.
Appropriate footwear & clothing Weather-suitable clothing (casual sportswear is ideal); sturdy trainers or boots.
Toilet / refreshment facilities Toilets, lockers and a bar/restaurant are available on site.

The cafe is a good size and would be suitable for our group to have coffee or lunch there after the tobogganing.  If you think you may like to stop for lunch  then please notify Miggie so she can give them an indication of numbers. Public transport and car parking facilities Free car parking is available on site.

If you require or can offer a lift then please contact Miggie who will make the necessary arrangements.  Given the distance involved, it is recommended that those receiving lifts should contribute to the cost of fuel.

COVID-19 Although COVID rules have been relaxed, we ask group members to respect each others’ personal space and ensure physical distancing where possible. It is recommended that you take hand sanitiser.  Lateral flow tests and face masks are optional but encouraged.
