u3a Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Dawlish and District u3a had a table in the marquee on the Lawn on Friday 3rd June, one of a number of local organisations using the Dawlish Platinum Jubilee celebrations to highlight what we offer to the many people looking at the various attractions laid on by the Town Council.

Barry, our Groups Coordinator, had turned out long forgotten cupboards to produce an imaginative variety of objects to help passers-by see the range of our activities.  There were boules, books, an artist’s palette, a bottle of beer, an arrow, cards, a chess set, and one or two objects whose significance continues to escape me, but which produced a colourful and interesting display, arranged with an impressive artistic flair I didn’t know he possessed.

With that taken care of, I only had to sit comfortably behind it and try not to put people off. Luckily, I was joined between the start at 11 a m and the finish at 5 p m by a number of members who were good enough to give up their time to keep me company, and I’m most grateful to them. Three new members joined on the day, and many more were given leaflets and application forms, and hopefully we have brought the u3a, and Learning, Laughing and Living, to the attention of more members of our community.
