Discussion Group – April/May 2026

On 15th April, the group met again to talk about the Quality of Life for Seniors. We agreed that it meant a preserved ability to enjoy life, in its aspects of health, independence, cognition, sensory function, social relationships, emotional, financial and environmental. We did not focus on all of these, but we mentioned the extended life expectancy in recent decades and the increased social and geographical mobility of younger generations since the end of WWII.

We dwelled upon the danger of loneliness in a more atomised society, where modern means of communication replaced direct social contact and increased the reluctance to help others. We mentioned that in old age people should be more pro-active in engaging with society and actively seek the company of others, as this no longer comes naturally, but I’m afraid we then focused more on the present day woes and digressed into current affairs…

Our next meeting will be on 13th May, when we are going to exchange opinions about the existence of an afterlife.
