Adventure Group visit Pebblebed Vineyard

U3a members met at the Pebblebed Vineyard at Marianne Pool Farm, Clyst St George, Exeter for a guided tour of the vineyard and wine tasting in the traditional winery.  We were welcomed by Alex the winemaker and a glass of sparkling wine.

We all then went for a guided walk around various parts of the vineyard.  Alex gave us an insight of how the grapes were grown and pruned and the various challenges in growing grapes in Devon.

After the tour of the vineyard we went into the traditional winery and Alex gave us a detailed account of how the wine was fermented and bottled.

We enjoyed tasting different still and sparkling wines and were able to ask various questions about the wines and wine making.

After the wine tasting we went into the garden area to have an artisan cheese and charcuterie light bite with a glass of wine.

Our tour was the last one of the season so we were very pleased to have been able to experience such a special event so close to home in glorious evening sunshine.
