
Adventure group – Nordic walking
Do you want to take your daily walk to the next level? Nordic walking may be just the thing for you!
Here is what you need to know.

Get to know the poles, understand your everyday walking. Learn basic technique to enable you to start to use Nordic walking poles on your adventures. Pole hire is included. (Trekking poles cannot be used)
Optional additional Guided Nordic walk from Powderham Farm Shop with continued technique guidance. |

Please be there by 9:45am. |
Cost | £20 per person for initial session.
£10 per person for guided walk. |
How and when to pay | Please pay the initial £20 to D&D u3a by Thursday July 24th (bank details below).

Cancellation policy | In the unlikely event of the provider cancelling then there will be refunds or an alternate date.
If individuals need to cancel please contact Deborah with as much notice as possible. |
Procedure for notifying group if provider cancels | In the event of cancellation I will send an email to all those who have booked and update the details on the website.
Please check the website before you leave in case of last minute cancellation. |
Level of fitness required or any particular skills (you must satisfy yourself that you are physically able to participate in the activity). | The poles mean that effort is shared between the upper and lower body so it actually feels easier than normal walking, particularly uphill. Nordic Walking puts less strain on joints than other activities and can be very effective for people with mobility issues or those recovering from illness or injury.
A PARQ health questionnaire must be completed by each attendee and emailed to the instructor individually. This will ensure an understanding of individual’s needs. This will be provided after booking is made. |
Personal medical conditions | If you have any medical conditions that might affect your ability to participate in the activity then you should declare this to the instructor on arrival. |

Appropriate footwear & clothing | Closed shoes, comfortable, waterproof trainers or walking shoes that have flexibility in the soles – no sandals or walking sandals.
Weather-appropriate layers of clothing, breathable if possible, that don’t restrict swinging arms. Jeans are not recommended. Waterproof coat and trousers, breathable if possible, and/or a sun hat. |
Storage of personal belongings | No storage is available, if you need to carry things with you please use a slim rucksack that doesn’t restrict swinging arms. |
Toilet / refreshment facilities | There are facilities at Powderham Farm shop. |
Public transport and car parking facilities | The number 2 bus runs past Powderham Farm shop.
Parking is available on site. We encourage car sharing if possible. Contact Deborah if you need help to make suitable arrangements. |
