Adventure Group – Paddleboarding at Exeter Quay

Once again we return to Exeter Quay, this time to have a go at Stand Up (or possibly kneel down!) Paddleboarding. This is what you need to know:

Meeting point The meeting point is on the Exeter Canal on Haven Road, by the slipway.
If you are coming from the direction of town, follow Haven Road past the Quay Climbing centre, it is on the left.
Date and start time Monday 24th June; 2pm start.

Please aim to arrive there about 15 mins before this.

Duration Approximately 2 hours
Cost, including deposit required £25
Cost includes Safety briefing, instruction and hire of paddleboard and all necessary equipment.
You will be expected to wear a buoyancy aid.
Deadline for commitment £10 deposit per person to be paid to Dawlish and District u3a Treasurer by 16th June 2024.

Please note, it is really important that you add the reference so our Treasurer knows what the funds are for.

Cheque payments:
Bank transfers are preferred but if you wish to pay by cheque please ensure the Treasurer has your cheque in sufficient time for it to clear by the deadline.

Deadline for payment in full Balance to be paid to Dawlish and District u3a Treasurer as above by 17th June 2024.
Cancellation policy Full refund for cancellation up to 20th June; loss of all payment thereafter (unless you can find somebody else to take your place).

Please notify Carolyn as soon as possible if you need to cancel.

Procedure for notifying group if provider cancels In the event of cancellation Carolyn will send an email to all those who have booked and update the details on the website.  Please check the website on the morning of the activity in case of last minute cancellation.
Level of fitness required or any particular skills (you must satisfy yourself that you are physically able to participate in the activity). Paddle Devon require that all hirers should be able to swim at least 25 metres.

Moderate fitness is required. You will be expected to climb on and off the paddleboard, lift it out of the water and carry it a short distance (with help).

Good core strength is helpful, as is a good sense of balance!

Personal medical conditions If you have any medical conditions that might affect your ability to paddle then you should declare this to Paddle Devon on arrival.

All participants must complete and return an activity form before taking part in this activity.
Disclaimer Please note that whilst the u3a organisers are concerned for everyone’s welfare, by taking part in this activity you should recognise that your safety is your own responsibility.
Appropriate footwear & clothing You might wish to dress appropriately for an unplanned dip in the water and take a spare set of clothes.  Please note that there are no changing facilities at Paddle Devon’s base so you should arrive in the clothes you plan to paddle in.

Footwear: beach shoes or bare feet.

Don’t forget your sunscreen if it is a sunny day.

Toilet / refreshment facilities Toilets and refreshments are available at the many cafes and restaurants at Exeter Quay.
Equipment provided You will be provided with a buoyancy aid and a dry bag for your personal belongings. Please leave valuables at home.
Public transport and car parking facilities Exeter St Thomas railway station is about a half mile walk away from the meeting point or car parking is available at the overflow car park at the back of Michael Browning Way (a 2 min walk to the Paddle Devon base from here).
