In Our Own Write – May/June 2024

Who needs therapy when you can be in a creative writing group?

The subject this week was The White Feather and as usual there were six distinct versions. We had the damage that was done in the First World War when women handed out white feathers to young men who were not in uniform without knowing the reason why they were not currently fighting, often with terrible long term effect.

There was a runaway abused wife who was given sanctuary in The White Feather Pub where white feathers repeatedly made an appearance.

The other three dealt with the white feather symbolising death in different ways from a young woman’s suicide; an old man dying in the garden of a nursing home, and a widow determined to save her garden bird life from the neighbour’s cat whereas she hadn’t been able to save her husband from succumbing to cancer.

Our next meeting will be on 10th June and the subject is “It was almost 8 o clock and….”
