About Jane Urquhart

A little bit about me: I was brought up and married into Upstairs.  When I was divorced in my  early thirties I found myself no longer Upstairs but a teacher on the half way landing.  Sadly, I got in a pickle with another divorce and found myself as a housekeeper/cook in a rather grand house where there were plenty of other staff and I was definitely eating downstairs and considered to be a Downstairs person.

Subsequently, I started a recruitment agency for domestic staff: butlers, housekeepers, gardeners, cooks and couples; I also started a school for Butlers and Housekeepers. 

Now I live in Devon but still have connections to my agency in London and occasionally do a bit of training of household staff.  This work has taken me to the most interesting and unusual places where I have met people who live in a world where they are supported in every way by their household staff.

I bring stories and experience but also a high degree of discretion!
