Strollers Social Walking Group – August 2023 (part 2)

When Jean announced the group were going to Hackney marshes I assumed she’d got her maps confused. Instead, it was me, and Hackney marshes really do exist close to here, where the River Teign flows in several channels into the estuary near Newton Abbot racecourse. A very pleasant walk of three or four miles from the Teignmouth road down to the Passage Inn, and then along the river and between the railway line and racecourse. I’ve often seen this area from the train, but never been there on foot before.

The sun came out, the Passage Inn provided a welcome stop for cold drinks, and the bus back home was on time. A lovely way to spend the afternoon, and thanks to Jean for arranging it.
