Quiz group – September/October 2022

The quizzes for September were held on the 5th and 26th with the group as usual responding to the set questions; some rounds proved easy, other subjects… well read on.

The first quiz saw the members trying to remember facts on Lanes, Mayors, Cats, Unfinished novels, Lions and the  General Knowledge questions. The strongest round was the Lanes. The Mayors was a good round as well, considering that no jokers were played. However the General Knowledge round was the weakest link closely followed by the roar of the lions!

Let’s see how you would have fared. Can you remember the name of the famous Mayor of Montreuil-sur-Mer or what part of the body ancient Egyptians would have shaved as a sign of mourning when their cat died?

I also wrote to the  group members asking them not to  forget to ask the greengrocer in Dawlish  for a kilo of Lion’s Mane and Black Amish when they were next shopping…what would the greengrocer have given them?

On the 26th the subject rounds were Philosophers, Palindromes, WWI, Woods, General Knowledge and Education. The Palindromes round gained the most marks with one team scoring a maximum 10/10. However it was evident that not many of the group had studied philosophy.  So who did say ‘Happiness is the highest good’ or ‘Man is condemned to be free’?

In the wood round no one realised that dear Woody Woodpecker has been the mascot of the Universal studios or that Natalie Wood was of Ukranian and Russian descent.

The group continues to hold its own and the upcoming quizzes will be held on  the 17th and 24th October, then on the 14th and 28th November.
