Quiz group – November/December 2024
As Bruce used to say ‘what’s the score on the board Miss Ford’ and our first quiz of the month was one which saw a variety of scores, according to the subject.
The group were set questions on General Knowledge, Guess the year, Number crunching time, Vive la France, Which one then and the Car’s the star.
It seemed a tougher test than normal and the ‘guess the year’ was the lowest overall score with the number crunching time round just pipping the post for top score. There were only 4 points separating everyone who participated!
Let’s see if you would have found the questions taxing:
- The Black sea is bordered by how many countries and what are they?
- George W Bush won a second presidential term in office in what year?
- How many times has South Africa won the rugby world cup?
- Which actor played the role of Napoleon Bonaparte in the 2023 film?
- Who is the oldest member of Take That? Howard Donald or Gary Barlow?
- Polestar, the electric car manufacturer was founded in which country?
Despite being a depleted number with members away in Australia, Greece and Sweden, we went ahead with the second quiz. As well as the General knowledge round, we looked at MCs, Strange laws, PMs and Presidents, News headlines and Scandalous. The best score was in the PMs and Presidents round and the least points total in the first round; the MCs.
How many of the following six statements would you have known?
- United Biscuits (UK) Ltd owns McVities snack brand
- Cordelia, Goneril and Regan are the sisters in the King Lear play
- In 1992 chewing gum was banned in Singapore
- Three US Presidents have been fully impeached
- The news headline on 21st July, 1969 was ‘First man on the moon’
- In 2015 Volkswagen was issued with a notice of violating the clean air act
We will be having one quiz in December; on Monday the 16th.
