Quiz group – May/June 2025

The quizzers breathed a sigh of relief after both quizzes, although the important thing was the fellowship that was enjoyed on Zoom.

The first battle of wits saw the members tackle questions on Three letters, Food and drink, Autonomous regions, Connect four, General Knowledge and Mints.

Food and drink topped the score board and the General Knowledge round came bottom of the pile.

We had one maximum points round and three nines. Here’s six of the questions that were asked:

  • What three letter IOC code would Mike Myers have worn?
  • It started with a kiss’ was a 1982 song released by which group?
  • Wallis and Futuna is an autonomous region linked to which country?
  • What do Odd Job, Stan Laurel, John Steed and Charlie Chaplin have in common?
  • In which UK national park is Kinder Scout located?
  • A 300 gram box of After Eights contains approximately how many individual After Eights?

For the second quiz another variety of themes was tabled: Cultural festivals, Strikes, Matches, General knowledge, Down the Pub and Fancy a swim?

The quizzers did well in answering the sixty questions and how about you? Would you have known that:

  • The Cultural festival of the Day of the dead originated in Mexico
  • George Gershwin wrote the music for the musical ‘Strike up the band
  • The initials LS in LS Lowry stand for Laurence Stephen
  • Hard times’ was the title of the shortest novel written by Charles Dickens
  • The Royle family used to frequent the Feathers public house
  • The swimmer Michael Phelps won a total of 28 Olympic medals

For this quiz, the participants excelled themselves when it came to the Swimming subject. However the General Knowledge round hit rock bottom for the fourth quiz in a row.

Our quizzes for June are scheduled to take place on Monday 9th and Monday 23rd.
