Quiz group – January /February 2025

The first quiz of 2025 centred around going backwards and forwards with subject rounds on Remember 2024 and It’s all New. Other rounds tackled the themes of Andrews, General Knowledge, About time and What does the word mean?

The group members are obviously well educated as the ‘What does it mean?’ theme picked up the greatest amount of points. Despite the two jokers that were played, everyone had an excellent score in that round. There was even a maximum 10 out of 10. However let’s not talk about the ‘About time’ answers!

Here is a taster question from each round:

  • Which British politician resigned in April?
  • What is the last location to see the New Year in?
  • How old is Julie Andrews?
  • Where in your body are your deltoids?
  • ‘Summer time’ is the aria which opens what opera?
  • What does Dadaism mean?

So how many of the five did you get spot on?

Our second quiz later in the month had another set of varied questions. As well as the always faithful ‘General Knowledge’ round, we zoomed in on the themes of It’s all nautical, Diaries, Early civilisations, They died young and Who painted it?

The quizzers excelled themselves when it came to the Alpha and Omega rounds; It’s all nautical and Who painted it? However, being so young, no wonder they could not come to grips with the early civilisations.

How about you? Would you have known that:

  • Ground tackle is a collective term for the anchor and its associated gear
  • Mrs Wilson’s diary was the title of the imaginary diary of a former PM’s wife
  • Archimedes was credited with inventing the burning glass weapon
  • The founder of ‘Body shop’ was Anita Roddick
  • James Dean died in a car accident in 1955, aged just 24.
  • Edward Hopper painted the ‘Nighthawks’

Wow, how time flies when you are having fun and we are now looking forward to our February and March quizzes, both on Monday 10th and 24th.

Please feel free to join us at any time.
