Djembes and dun duns: adventure group try West African drumming

Eleven members signed up for this adventure which took place at the Manor House in Dawlish.

Once we had gathered round together in a circle, James from Drum Devon explained the history of the West African djembe drum and its importance in West African culture.

First of all we had a warm up session and then we started to learn the traditional rhythms of the drums. Most of the group had not done this before but we soon got into it and enjoyed our session together.

We stopped for afternoon tea/biscuits and then continued playing different drumming techniques and rhythms. African drumming is very invigorating, enjoyable and energising. If you would like further information please look on James’s website www.drumdevon.co.uk

Looking forward to our next adventure.
