Adventure group – RIB ride

Our next adventure is taking to the water again.  This time we’re RIB riding out of the Quay at Teignmouth with Devon Sea Safari.

Here’s what you need to know:

Date and start time Thursday 6th October 2022 at 1pm
Please try to arrive at the meeting point 30 mins early to give yourself time to walk to the Quay and check in.
Duration 1.5 hours
Cost, including deposit required £375 to charter the RIB

For 12 people this will be £31.25 per person.

Cost includes 90 minutes’ chartered ride, based on DSS’s usual tours. We will be looking for marine mammals and coastal birds and also enjoying some travelling at speed.  (See here for their usual offerings, ours will be based on this.)
Terms and conditions Please familiarise yourself with Devon Sea Safari’s terms and conditions.
Deadline for commitment You should book a place by notifying  Ann of your intention to come by email by the end of  Wednesday 14th September.

If we don’t get 12 people then Ann will email those who have booked for the trip to discuss further options.

Deadline for payment in full Following confirmation, the full payment of £31.25 should be paid to Dawlish and District u3a Treasurer by the end of Sunday 18th September.

Bank transfers are preferred but if you wish to pay by cheque please ensure the Treasurer has your cheque in sufficient time for it to clear by the deadline.

If all payments are not received by the deadline we may lose our provisional booking.

Cancellation policy Devon Sea Safari state: “if we don’t sail due to extreme weather you will get a full refund or we can move your trip to another time/day. Our skipper will always ensure that it’s safe to sail and may make last minute decisions.”

DSS will not cancel if it is simply raining.

If you are unable to come, please note that we will still be obliged to pay the full charter fee and so, regretfully, unless you can find a replacement person you will lose your money.

Procedure for notifying group if provider cancels In the event of cancellation Ann will send an email to all those who have booked and update the details on the website.  Please check the website on the morning of the activity in case of last minute cancellation.
Level of fitness required or any particular skills (you must satisfy yourself that you are physically able to participate in the activity). There are no particular physical requirements for this trip but please note that the Devon Sea Safari website states:

“Accessing the boat requires going down some steps from the quay which can sometimes be slippery”

Personal medical conditions If you have any medical conditions that might affect your ability to sail then you should declare this to Devon Sea Safari on arrival.
Disclaimer Please note that whilst the u3a organisers are concerned for everyone’s welfare, by taking part in this activity you should recognise that your safety is your own responsibility.
Appropriate footwear & clothing From their website: “It is normally a lot cooler on the water so please wear nice warm clothes. Sunglasses and a waterproof jacket will be handy if it’s windy or rainy. Remember your binoculars and camera ready for spotting any wildlife.”
Toilet facilities / refreshments Public toilets can be found nearby but there are none available on the boat.

Meeting point Outside the Newquay Inn at 12:30pm.
Public transport and car parking facilities The nearest public car park is Quay Rd, Teignmouth TQ14 8EL, a short walk away from Teignmouth fishing quay. There is a charge for parking.

Public transport is available from Dawlish to Teignmouth but if you need or can offer a lift please contact the organiser.

COVID-19 This provider states: “Passengers with any doubts about the risks of contracting Covid 19 should not book”.

You should not attend if you think you have Covid.
