Adventure Group – Guided walk on nature reserve

Many of us are familiar with the nature reserve at Dawlish Warren.  But do you know the wealth of plants, birds and animals that make it their home?  This walk is your chance to find out more on a guided walk with the Dawlish Warren Ranger.

Here are the details for this adventure.

Duration Approximately one and a half hours
Meeting point We will meet at the far end of the Dawlish Warren seaward car park, ready to walk up to the Visitor Centre together (here).

Please be there no later than 10:15am.

Cost The total cost for this activity is £56.50 for the group.  The cost will be split equally between participants so has been set at £3.50.
Cost includes A short slideshow in the Visitor Centre and then a guided walk around the reserve to see plants and wildlife.
Deadline for commitment Please contact Miggie by Monday 28th April to confirm your interest in this adventure. I will then be able to set the price per person.
How and when to pay Please pay the full amount to D&D u3a by Wednesday May 7th (bank details below).

Please note, it is really important that you add the reference so our Treasurer knows what the funds are for.

Cheque payments:
Bank transfers are preferred but if you wish to pay by cheque please ensure the Treasurer has your cheque in sufficient time for it to clear by the deadline.

Cancellation policy Because the total cost will be divided between the group (based on numbers indicating their interest), no refunds will be possible unless you can find another Dawlish & District member to take your place.
Procedure for notifying group if provider cancels In the event of cancellation (eg due to extreme bad weather) I will send an email to all those who have booked and update the details on the website. 

Please check the website before you leave in case of last minute cancellation.

Level of fitness required or any particular skills (you must satisfy yourself that you are physically able to participate in the activity). We will mostly be walking on stable  vegetated surfaces so it should not be too hard going.  Some of the walk may be on soft sand though, and you should expect to stand/walk for at least an hour.
Personal medical conditions If you have any medical conditions that might affect your ability to participate in the activity then you should declare this to the instructor on arrival.
Disclaimer Please note that whilst the u3a organisers are concerned for everyone’s welfare, by taking part in this activity you should recognise that your safety is your own responsibility.
Appropriate footwear & clothing Appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear for the weather on the day. 
Storage of personal belongings Please leave valuables at home.
Toilet / refreshment facilities There are toilets, a pub and cafes near the entrance to the reserve.
Public transport and car parking facilities Both buses and trains run to Dawlish Warren. If you prefer to drive, free parking is available; details will be sent to participants via email.

We encourage car sharing if possible.  Please let Miggie know if you can offer or need a lift.

Terms and Conditions Nature Reserve Bye Law requirements are listed on this page. Most relevant to us are:

  • Do not deliberately disturb, collect or remove wildlife
  • You must not remove rocks, sand or soil
  • You must not dig up, damage or remove any plant or parts of a plant including driftwood
  • Dogs are restricted or banned on many parts of the site.  Check notices.
  • Abide by restrictions to access and do not climb fences or enter fenced areas
  • Metal detecting is only permitted on the beach, not the dunes, mudflats or grassland
  • Only use bins provided for waste or even better take your litter home with you
