Adventure group – Clip n Climb

Clip n Climb is a fun climbing experience suitable for all climbers, including complete beginners. There will be opportunities to climb solo and with others, and to try a range of different climbing challenges (if you wish!)

Here are the details for our “Clip n Climb” adventure:

Cost includes Safety briefing, instruction and all necessary climbing equipment.

“No experience is required to enjoy Clip ‘n Climb safely.  Our instructors run a safety briefing before you climb which covers everything you need to know about using the auto belay system and how to climb the elements safely.  They will also ensure your harness is fitted correctly.  Our instructors are also on hand to offer support where needed.”   (From FAQs)

Deadline for commitment To book a place please contact Miggie via adventure@u3a.dawlish.info by 11th November. If 16 people are able to attend the session then we can have the Clip n Climb arena to ourselves, otherwise we will be allocated places in a public session.

Cancellation policy Because this is a group booking, once you have booked and paid for your place, cancellation will not be possible unless you can find someone to take your place.
Procedure for notifying group if provider cancels In the event of cancellation Miggie will send an email to all those who have booked and update the details on the website.

Please check the website on the morning of the activity in case of last minute cancellation.

Level of fitness required or any particular skills (you must satisfy yourself that you are physically able to participate in the activity). Climbing is not recommended for guests that have neck or back problems, heart problems or have had recent surgery. 

You should be confident in balancing and heights, gripping with your hands and able to support your bodyweight using your arms and legs.

You will be securely attached to an autobelay at all times so if you slip you will fall just a few feet before being caught by the safety rope.

Personal medical conditions If you have any medical conditions that might affect your ability to participate then you should declare this to Climbing Centre staff on arrival.
Disclaimer Please note that whilst the u3a organisers are concerned for everyone’s welfare, by taking part in this activity you should recognise that your safety is your own responsibility.
Appropriate footwear & clothing “You should wear appropriate loose fitting, flexible, comfortable clothing and closed-toe footwear such as trainers. Climbing shoes, shoes with heels, flip-flops or open toe shoes are not permitted. Shoe laces should be tied, long hair tied back and all jewellery removed before the start of the session. Glasses must be secure and any jewellery such as rings and ear-rings should be removed before climbing for safety reasons.” (From FAQs)

You should arrive dressed ready to climb.

Equipment provided All necessary climbing equipment, including ropes, harnesses and simple auto belay clips.
Personal belongings “We operate a secure locker system both for small personal items such as wallets, phones or tablets, as well as larger lockers for bags.  Any personal belongings are left at the owners risk.”  (From FAQs)
Toilet / refreshment facilities There are toilets and a cafe on site.
Meeting point We will meet near reception upstairs in the Climbing Centre at 10:20am, ready for pre-climb preparation and briefing.
Public transport and car parking facilities Exeter St Thomas railway station is about a half mile walk away from the Climbing Centre, or car parking is available nearby at the overflow car park at the back of Michael Browning Way (a 2 min walk to the Centre from here).
