Quiz group – December 2025/January 2026

Our first quiz was centred around the themes of Colleges, Schools, Songs  from the Musicals, Mags, General Knowledge and Bags. The mags round was where each answer began with mag ie Steve McQueen played Vin Tanner in which classic film? Answer – ‘The Magnificent Seven’.

Here are questions from the other five rounds..

  • The Florence Nightingale faculty of nursing is based in which London college?
  • Which Mozart opera is subtitled ‘School for lovers’
  • ‘A lovely night’ is a song from which 2016 film?
  • Macadamia nuts are native to which country?
  • In which country did the game of bagatelle originate?

After sending through the scores, it was noted that the Mags topped the board with General Knowledge coming bottom of the pile.

There were some individual high scores but only two of the teams played their joker in what proved to be their best round.

We met again on the 15th for a Christmas special, with the wearing of Christmas jumpers adding to the festivities. The points were up for grabs as questions on Candles, A Christmas Carol, Christmas Trivia, Carols, Crackers and Gifts were asked.

Would you have  been a Christmas star and known the answers to the following…

  • What is the most popular candle scent?
  • What is the name of Scrooge’s cheerful nephew?
  • Which pop star released the holiday song ‘Santa, tell me’?
  • What happens at the end of ‘Jingle Bells’?
  • Fire crackers were first made of what?
  • How many different types of birds are given as gifts in the ‘Twelve days of Christmas’?

Christmas trivia was top of the Christmas tree and Crackers fell off it (not the name of one of our groups may I add!)

It has been a great year of quizzing but more than that some excellent fellowship and banter. Hopefully others might join in time.

We will be taking a break over Christmas and the New Year and commencing our 2026 quizzes on Mondays 12th and 26th January.
