Literature group – August 2021

The Literature Group met on the 30th July 2021, when we were pleased to welcome new member Maggie Thorogood. Apart from discussing the current book, individually we selected our own personal choices for the future year from the extensive list provided by Devon Libraries. These are forwarded to Exeter Library, and as we do not share our choices, it is very interesting to see what arrives each month. We are looking forward to some varied and stimulating reads.

The book we discussed was The Shipping News written by Annie Proulx (review here). The members were so impressed with this book they awarded it almost maximum points,

The book for August is The Book of Speculation by Erica Swyler, and one critique describes it as a “quirky, raucous and bewitching family saga”.

Our next meeting is on Friday 20th August.
