Adventure group – kayaking photos

In the end, nine intrepid Adventure group members participated in the group’s first adventure, kayaking.  We took to the water in a variety of craft: single, double, sit-on and sit-in.  I tried a sit-on kayak for the first time and learned belatedly that these have holes in the bottom – guess who came home with a very wet bum?

Most of us were complete beginners, so the instruction from Nils of Kayakhub was very helpful.  We learned where and which way up to hold the paddle; and how to paddle forwards, backwards, slowly and quickly. We even had a race, won by Tony.

Usefully, we were also taught how to get in and out of the kayak without tipping ourselves into the water.  This was an essential skill since our trip took us down to the Double Locks pub and back, and rest and refreshment there were much needed.  The lesson must have been successful because nobody fell in.

Thank you to our support team of Dave, Linda and Michael who cheered us on and took the photos shown below.
